Summary of Horticulture & Potatoes team activities, including National Living Wage lobbying, work to increase fruit and veg consumption, bee health taskforce meeting and hardy nursery stock provenance workshop.
Horticulture and Potatoes Board Vice Chairman, Guy Poskitt, attended a Ministerial meeting at Portcullis House with Ali Capper, David Long and Chris Hartfield to continue the NFU’s lobbying efforts on National Living Wage. He also attended the Horticulture and Potatoes Board Meeting.
Horticulture and Potatoes Board member, Tim Papworth attended the Norfolk Skills and Careers Event at the Royal Norfolk Showground, was interviewed by Heather Briggs for the Farmers Guardian, and demonstrated at the Potato Day at the Royal Norfolk Showground (supported by AHDB Potatoes and the GYOP project). He also attended the Norfolk NFU Office holders meeting at Park Farm, the Stalham Farmer’s club Annual Dinner (175th) and a NFU Breakfast meeting with Minette Batters for the younger members to discuss the role and function of the NFU. He attended the NFU Branch meeting at Holt Rugby Club, the Clan Trust (agricultural charity) Trustees meeting and the Horticulture and Potatoes Board Meeting.
Horticulture and Potatoes Board member, David Long, attended a Ministerial meeting at Portcullis House with Ali Capper, Guy Poskitt and Chris Hartfield to continue the NFU’s lobbying efforts on National Living Wage. He also met with his MP with a local delegation to try to push for our asks about NLW, spoke at Rochester NFU local branch regarding horticultural work and the work of the NFU and went to a meeting organised by A C Goatham (Guy Smith spoke) with industry partners about the future of fruit growing in Kent. He also attended the Horticulture and Potatoes Board Meeting.
Chief Horticulture Adviser, Chris Hartfield, attended a Ministerial meeting at Portcullis House with Ali Capper, Guy Poskitt and David Long to continue the NFU’s lobbying efforts on National Living Wage. He also contributed to the Bee health advisory forum teleconference and attended the Horticulture and Potatoes Board Meeting.
Horticultural Adviser, Lee Abbey, attended a Farm food waste meeting in Banbury, met stakeholders to discuss the progress of the NFU’s report on increasing consumption of fruit and vegetables and attended the Horticulture and Potatoes Board Meeting.
Horticultural Adviser, Amy Gray, attended a workshop on sourcing GB seeds for broadleaved trees at the Duchy Estate in Herefordshire. She also attended the Horticulture and Potatoes Board Meeting.
