NFU Cymru has welcomed Welsh Government’s announcement that support payments will be made to organic farmers in 2024.
The Organic Support Payment, announced this week, will provide support to fully-certified organic farmers during the transition to the Sustainable Farming Scheme with applications made through the Single Application Form by 15 May 2024. The payment will be available to all fully-certified organic applicants, not only those who were part of the Glastir Organic Scheme.
Responding to the announcement, Haydn Evans, NFU Cymru representative on the NFU Organic Forum said: “NFU Cymru and others have continually raised concerns with Welsh Government about the ‘cliff edge’ in funding faced by organic producers following the announcement of the Habitat Wales Scheme in July 2023. We are pleased that Welsh Government has listened to our concerns and has put plans in place to support certified organic producers in 2024.”
