Carriage of dangerous goods: the regulations and exemptions

Transport

The Regulations which cover the carriage of dangerous goods on the road in the UK are

  • The Carriage of Dangerous Goods and Use of Transportable Pressure Equipment Regulations 2009 (CDG); and
  • The European agreement "Accord européen relatif au transport international des marchandises dangereuses par route" (ADR).

ADR provides a classification for each substance or article and from that classification comes legal requirements for packaging and tanks, consignment procedures (including documentation), loading and unloading and crew and vehicle requirements for the transportation of each “dangerous good”.

The Regulations are complex, and you should contact CallFirst on 0370 845 8458 for advice in this area.
