Top of the agenda was the potential opportunities for the food and farming sector presented by the Mid Wales Growth Deal proposed by the UK Government to help boost the region’s economy.

Commenting after the meeting, Ceredigion NFU Cymru County Chairman, Aled Lewis said: “It was good to meet with the Food Centre Wales and Ceredigion County Council and to exchange ideas about how we can work together to help grow the local economy.  I feel strongly that the farming and food industry will be a key sector to drive forward prosperity in Mid Wales, and I was very impressed by the excellent facilities that the Food Centre has developed in Horeb to give technical advice and support for food businesses in Mid and West Wales to develop new and existing food products.” 

Aled Lewis concluded: “Whilst there is much uncertainty about the future due to Brexit, it was good to see first-hand the support and expertise that’s available to the Welsh Food industry to help businesses to grow and succeed.  The Mid Wales Growth Deal could potentially inject much needed investment into the area, and it’s important that we take every opportunity to ensure that we continue to have a productive, profitable and progressive food and farming industry that can capitalise on the opportunities that will arise for food producing nations, such as Wales, as both domestic and global demand for food continues to grow.”
