Dafydd Jones Memorial Award: Apply here

15 Awst 2024

The NFU Cymru Clwyd branch has today launched the search for this year’s Dafydd Jones Memorial Award winner. The accolade will be awarded to the NFU Cymru Clwyd member who has made the greatest contribution to agriculture in the county.

Dafydd Jones, Pencoed Ucha, Pwllglas was the Clwyd County Chair in 2019 but suddenly passed away after courageously battling Myeloma for the previous 18 months. Dafydd had represented his county on NFU Cymru’s Rural Affairs Board for eight years, a portfolio that suited his professional knowledge and wisdom perfectly. His input was always valid and measured, and he had gained the utmost respect by his fellow board members.

This year’s award has also been launched on social media and is looking to bring together the online grass roots members after the recent success of digital county meetings that have been ongoing throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.

The 2020 winner was Lord Newborough, Rhug Estate. Lord Newborough tries to seize every opportunity to promote the benefits of sustainable organic farming in Denbighshire to a local, UK and international audience. He has made an enormous contribution to promoting the benefits of organic meat and products. Before the Covid-19 pandemic struck, he would often travel abroad with the Welsh Government food and drink team to help find new markets, whilst promoting the excellence and high quality of both Welsh and organic lamb and beef.

The closing date is Friday 26th November 2021 and following that, farmers will be shortlisted and contacted by the judging panel. The winner will be announced at the next county event.
